Skid Row, Guns N' Roses are Summer's Top Concert
- Walter Tunis, The Lexington Herald-Leader, 6.28.91

Guns N' Roses and Skid Row
8 p.m. Saturday at Rupp Arena

What do you get when you combine the most popular new rock band of the last five years with the group that has the No. 1 album in the country?

The biggest concert event in Lexington this summer.

Guns N' Roses and Skid Row are making their only scheduled area appearances on Saturday. That's a major coup for Rupp, which usually is in the midst of its annual summer slumber at this time of year.

For Guns N' Roses fans, this won't be an easy show. The group has two new albums - both titled Use Your Illusion - scheduled for release this summer. But because much of the band's program focuses on material from the records, that may leave even the most learned Guns N' Roses fans out in the cold.

There will be the usual favorites like “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Mr. Brownstone” and singer Axl Rose's tortured reading of Bob Dylan's “Knockin' on Heaven's Door.”

Although Guns N' Roses probably doesn't need any help to pull in the crowds this summer, the group has enlisted Skid Row as its opening band. The New Jersey rockers pulled off quite a trick last week when their new Slave to the Grind album went to No. 1 in its third week of release.

The concert was originally scheduled for tonight but was changed to Saturday to accommodate Guns N' Roses' tour schedule. All tickets listing today's date will be honored. Remaining tickets, in the upper arena, are $22.75
